The Lego Game Boy Announcement Gets Fans Excited for the $60 Set

The Lego Game Boy announcement revealed a 421-piece replica of the original handheld, available for $60 starting October 1, 2025.

No other toy company has captivated the adult gamer market the way Lego has, and with every new set release, it becomes more and more apparent that the business has a clear idea of how to keep its target audience locked down. With a new Lego Game Boy announcement going live, the company has managed to pay homage to Nintendo once more, packing nostalgia into a box. Lego revealed its latest brick-built Game Boy, which isn’t a functional console, but instead a near-identical replica of the original 1989 classic.

The Game Boy Lego set is available for preorder, and it’s priced at a decent $60 in the US. Some might find it a tad bit expensive for a collectible display item, but Lego sets don’t come cheap, and this one is on the more affordable side, allowing a larger number of Nintendo fans to get their hands on the set.

The Lego Game Boy Announcement Brings a Gentle Tear to Many Eyes

The Lego Game Boy release didn’t come as a surprise, as Lego had previously revealed that it was collaborating with Nintendo to bring the console back to life. The original Lego Game Boy announcement was made in January, and the pair committed to an October release for the replica of the handheld. This isn’t the first collaboration between Nintendo and Lego, as we’ve previously seen sets based on Nintendo’s IP, such as a Bowser set and even a pixelated Mario and Yoshi. We also remember the adorable Nintendo Entertainment System Lego set, complete with a Mario-themed TV screen.

This time, the Game Boy duplicate was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con 2025 alongside a collection of other exciting sets like the $150 Lego Wicked Emerald City Wall Art set and the $40 Lego Stranger Things BrickHeadz set. The Lego Batman Arkham Asylum set is easily the most elaborate of the lot, with its 3,000 pieces and its complex structure and hidden details.

Each set promises to offer a fun building experience for the buyer, while also leaving them with a stunning, heartwarming art piece at the end of it all.

What You Can Expect from the Lego-Nintendo Game Boy

The brick-built Lego Game Boy set is a direct recreation of the original Game Boy handled, and while it won’t let you actually play your games on it, you can swap out the cartridges for different displays on the DIY collectible. The swappable lenticular lenses can show you slightly different images from different angles, allowing you to set the Nintendo start screen or a scene from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening or Super Mario Land as your primary display.

Now a fully functional console that actually allowed you to play games would have really been a gamechanger, but we’re not going to get greedy and look a gift horse in the mouth. From the Lego Game Boy announcement and the iconic ad it recreated to showcase it, it is apparent that the Lego handheld replica has similar proportions to the original, along with the buttons, D-pad, and display recreated to perfection.

Around 5.5 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide, the grey box build also comes with a simple stand to display the finished results once you’re done putting it together. While it looks simplistic, the Lego Gameboy set has 421 pieces, so building it won’t necessarily be a walk in the park for the uninitiated.

Lego Game Boy Lego Preorder Details

The Game Boy Lego model building set became available for preorder on July 24, 2025, priced at $59.99 / €59.99 /.£54.99. As originally intended, this Lego Game Boy will be released on October 1, 2025, so you’ll have to wait a few months before you can actually start building your own imitation of the Game Boy.

Are You Excited for the Lego Game Boy’s Release?

The Lego Game Boy set is not as exciting to look at as it is essentially a 1:1 replica of the original handheld which was exceedingly simplistic in design, and it does not feature any flashing lights and sounds to add to the excitement. At a glance, the Lego Game Boy announcement is not necessarily going to be exciting for everyone, but there is a niche but vast community of gamers who are going to be thrilled to put this console together and display it in their spaces. The lower price point should also make it possible for more people to get their hands on the new set from Lego.

The Lego brand has always been a popular one, but over the last few years, there has been a growing community of Lego builders who take pride in owning and building each unique Lego set with care. Even outside of this “set-builder” community, Legos have been embraced in many ways, from treating them as home decor to using Lego flowers as a romantic gesture when you want to win someone over in a heartbeat. There’s even a popular TikTok/Instagram account that has gone viral for adorning the entrance to her home with Legos. The possibilities are endless.

As childish as Legos may be to some, these sets serve to promote popular media in novel ways and give many people the opportunity to direct their focus and creativity towards something special. As for us, we are certainly excited to place our pre-orders for the Lego Nintendo Game Boy model set so we can get building as soon as it is out.
