Apple Watch has an ECG app, and many more health-related sensors and capabilities. Though, it does not have anything to do with monitoring the brain beyond mindfulness, yet for at least the second time, the alert has led to a brain tumor diagnosis.

Irregular heartbeat detection by apple smartwatch

An Apple Watch again played a critical role in detecting an irregular heartbeat through its ECG (electrocardiogram) function of a 57-year-old female from Brighton, East Sussex as per a report. This irregular heartbeat alerting her to a possible health issue, leading to her seeking urgent medical help. This decision helped doctors discover an undiagnosed brain tumour in time for her to receive treatment.

Apple Watch alert helped discover brain tumor

Time and again, Apple Watch?s health features have played a part in flagging a potential health problem. Sam Adams never imagined her Apple Watch could play a life-saving role. After returning from Costa Rica, the Apple Watch kept on sending her repeatedly low heart rate alerts. Ignoring the warnings first blaming her fatigue and headaches on stress, jet lag, and grief from losing her father, her pet, and her marriage.

As per her statement, ?I thought it was jet lag – I had really low energy and a dull headache at the front of my head. My Apple Watch also kept saying my heart rate was low.” After receiving repeated heart rate alerts from the Apple Watch, Adams decided to consult a pharmacist to have her blood pressure checked.

This initial step led to more thorough testing, which uncovered a manageable heart condition likely responsible for the watch’s alerts. Her persistent headaches prompted doctors to order a CT scan, which unexpectedly revealed a previously undiagnosed brain tumour.

According to the report, doctors informed Adams that the tumour is likely benign but inoperable. She was prescribed medication and undergoes monthly brain scans. She expressed deep gratitude towards her Apple Watch for saving her life.

The latest Apple Watch Series 10 offers a sleep apnoea detection feature and informs users about any irregularities in their sleep cycle.
