Ghost of Yotei Consoles Are On Their Way and So Are Some Snazzy Controllers

One of the most controversial titles to make a debut this year, Ghost of Yotei’s release just got more exciting. In the latest update from the State of Play event, apart from the game that’s arriving on October 2, 2025, we also have a Ghost of Yotei PS5 console and controllers making their way to us. Sony has held off on doing anything interesting with its console despite the extensive room for customization, but the Ghost of Yotei limited edition hardware release is just what fans have been waiting for. 

The Ghost of Yotei State of Play event was a huge success for multiple reasons, including the showcase of some phenomenal gameplay, but the release of the console is what has most people talking. The primary reason for this is that fans don’t have to buy an entirely new console to celebrate their love for the game, as they can invest in just the replaceable covers for their existing console. Even if fans choose to skip the Ghost of Yotei limited edition cover, it’s likely that Sony will try something similar for future releases as well, making it all the more exciting for PS5 and PS5 Pro gamers across the globe.

Ready for a Ghost of Yotei Console? It’s Time to Get Your Pre-orders In

Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei is a sequel to the 2020 title Ghost of Tsushima, and ever since the game’s announcement, there has been some interesting debate over the choice to lead with a female protagonist. This year’s Assassin’s Creed: Shadow release was similarly controversial for featuring both a Black samurai and a female assassin, but things eventually blew over after the release of the game. Many are hoping the dark and dramatic gameplay experience with Ghost of Yotei will be enough to make the gamers focus on the content rather than the politics of it all, but it’s too soon to predict which way the winds will blow.

Coming back to the matter at hand, we have two new gorgeous Ghost of Yotei limited edition consoles making a debut on October 2, both featuring a similar aesthetic with their own unique inspiration from Japanese culture. Paying homage to the culture that the game is based on, the Ghost of Yotei consoles feature a representation of Mount Yotei, an iconic symbol of Hokkaido, where the game is based.

What Do We Know About the Ghost of Yotei Limited Edition PS5 Consoles?

There are two variants of the Ghost of Yotei console set for release, both featuring the same Yotei mountain in a slightly different style. The gold variant takes inspiration from the kintsugi tradition of using gold lacquer to repair broken items, depicting the art of enhancing the breaks instead of disguising them. The fine-lined design echoes the aesthetic of this fine philosophy, while also doing a great job of enhancing the beauty of an otherwise boring surface.

The Ghost of Yōtei Gold Limited Edition Bundle is designed to symbolize the “beauty in imperfection and mirroring Atsu’s own personal journey of healing and resilience amidst the adversities she’ll face along the way.

The second version of the Ghost of Yotei limited edition set is available in black instead of gold, and the fine-lined gold is replaced with inky brushstrokes to depict the Japanese traditional art form Sumi-e. The monochrome bold brushstrokes showcase another key element of the culture, tying into the game’s theme as well. It’s designed to capture “the essence of the land’s beauty and mystery, while echoing Atsu’s inner struggle and journey towards redemption.”

The Yotei Consoles Bring Matching DualSense Wireless Controllers

If the gorgeously designed Ghost of Yotei consoles weren’t enough, both come with a matching DualSense wireless controller. The controllers keep with the theme of the console in terms of aesthetics and feature a silhouette of Atsu on the DualSense touchpad. The controllers look a tad bit messier than the clean lines on the consoles themselves, but they still do a great job of tying in the game with the design and the material behind the inspiration well enough. 

Our inspiration for this design came straight from one of the core aspects within the game: a deep focus on exploration. This includes the hand-drawn icons Atsu marks on her map, a kintsugi-style effect pulled from her Ghost mask, and brushstrokes reminiscent of her Sumi-e paintings. The towering Mount Yōtei is included at the center of the console design to pull it all together, and Atsu is spotlighted on the DualSense controller. Each of these elements were thoughtfully woven into both the console and controller designs.

Both consoles and controllers also feature a “special maker’s seal engraved with PlayStation shapes,” to add a little something extra to the design. If you like either of the DualSense Wireless Controllers but don’t want to purchase a console just to own it, you can also purchase them individually instead of as a bundle. 

Don’t Have the Budget for a New Console? Consider Buying The Redesigned Covers

The Ghost of Yotei limited edition console is an obvious way for Sony to sell more consoles to fans who might be tempted enough by the design to upgrade their existing consoles or switch over from their other hardware, however, we have to give the company credit for trying to reach more fans. Instead of making the purchase of a new console the only way to cash in on this redesign, Sony is also making console covers available to spruce up your existing devices.

If you already own a PS5 Slim or PS5 Pro console, you can purchase the Ghost of Yōtei Gold Limited Edition console cover directly from PlayStation, or it will be made available in limited quantities through select retailers where direct.playstation.com is not available. This cover concept could be a big money maker for Sony and the studios, considering its potential to make game launches all the more exciting.

The limited edition consoles and controllers will release on October 2, but Sony has not revealed the prices or when pre-orders will open. For now, we only have information on the Ghost of Yotei PS5 bundles to know what’s included in each one.

Will You Be Buying a Ghost of Yotei Console?

Will the Ghost of Yotei limited edition consoles and controllers sell well? It all depends on the price. Even for those who aren’t excited about the game, the designs of the controller and consoles could be tempting enough to place an order, especially for the gold console covers at the very least. The Yotei console trailer perfectly depicted the masterful aesthetic of these upcoming entrants to the market, giving many a good reason to open their wallets.
