Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 Recap: 3 New Foldables At Your Service

It's time for a recap of the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, where 3 new smartphones and smartwatches were just unveiled.

Samsung finally held its big foldable phone event, and after all the teasers around the “ultra” offerings, the company came out with three new smartphones. It’s time for a Galaxy Unpacked 2025 recap to catch up with everything Samsung had to offer this time around. The latest foldable lineup from the company brings three new offerings: the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and a budget Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. The company also revealed the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra, but it’s the foldables that are truly eye-catching.

The Samsung Unpacked July 2025 updates have left some excited at the prospect of a new “budget” flip phone, but the audience is divided on whether the device is truly a pocket-friendly option. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the most celebrated release of the lot, especially seeing as it follows this year’s trend of ultra-thin smartphones. It doesn’t beat the Honor Magic V5 at being the thinnest on the market, but it still packs an armload of specs to ensure it doesn’t disappoint.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 Recap: Celebrating the Foldables and Smartwatches

The Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event was held on July 9, and it wasn’t just a device gadget launch event but also a showcase of the One UI 8 OS built on Android 16. Samsung’s slow-paced rollout of One UI 7 had frustrated fans considerably over the last few months, so the company was quick to ensure it could keep pace with the recent release of Android 16 more effectively. The OS doesn’t bring as many changes as we’d have liked, but we expect that later version updates will carry more weight.

The sleekness of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has been its main promotional point long before its release, and now that it’s here, the difference from its predecessor is evident. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 has also upgraded to a degree in terms of design language, specifically when it comes to the external screen. The tiny screen on the outer cover has been a point of contention for years now, and Samsung has finally decided to do something about it.

Let’s go over some of the main Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2025 updates to see what’s on offer.

Galaxy Z Fold 7—Thinner Than Ever, but What Else Is New?

Powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset, a 16GB RAM capacity, and 1TB of storage on the most premium model, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a beast for something so sleek. The smartphone weighs 215g and it is 8.9mm thick when closed and 4.2mm thick when opened up. It’s among the thinnest foldables you can find on the market. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has an 8-inch, 1968 x 2184 resolution AMOLED main display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.5-inch 1080 x 2520 resolution AMOLED external display. The 4,400mAh battery is nothing to write home about, but there is a new 200MP camera to draw your attention.

This is paired with one 12MP ultra-wide lens and one 10MP telephoto lens on the rear, and two 10MP front cameras for both folded and unfolded photography. The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 glass on the display is paired with an aluminum frame, and it has an Armor FlexHinge that’s also been thinned down. The IP48 rating doesn’t offer much in terms of durability, especially when you consider the $1,999 starting price of the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Samsung’s marketing had indicated that there was going to be an “Ultra” smartphone experience with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, so it’s interesting that the tag isn’t reflected in the name. The device is a step up from its predecessor, but there’s very little by way of an innovative, premium upgrade.

Galaxy Z Flip 7—Another Fold with Upgrades of Its Own

Samsung infamously revived interest in the flip phone market when it brought its own offerings to the market a few years ago, and it has since consistently brought out a clamshell model with some regularity to appease its fans. The next hit on our Galaxy Unpacked 2025 recap is the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Starting at $1,100, the new smartphone isn’t affordable by any means, but for those determined to test it out, it has some interesting specs to offer.

It showcases the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with 12GB of RAM and offers the option of 256GB or 512GB of storage. The 4.1-inch cover screen offers a 120Hz refresh rate and 948 x 1048 pixels resolution, while the internal 6.9-inch screen has the same refresh rate but 1080 x 2520 pixels resolution. You can expect a 50MP main camera with a 12MP ultra-wide lens for company, and another 10MP selfie lens. The 4,300mAh battery isn’t the best on the market, but it is an upgrade from its predecessor.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE—Is It Really More Budget-Friendly?

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 Fan Edition is a more affordable alternative for those who want to try out a clamshell fold phone, but it isn’t entirely cheap either. The device starts at $900, making it $200 cheaper than the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but there are more affordable alternatives like the Motorola Razr (2025) on the market for a truly budget-friendly option.

It relies on an Exynos 2400 processor and offers 8GB of RAM with 128GB or 256GB of storage. The 4,000-mAh battery is paired with a similar camera setup to the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The color options are more limited, and the device is slightly smaller as well. You have a 3.4-inch cover screen at 720 x 748 pixels resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate, along with a 6.7-inch internal display with 1080 x 2640 pixels resolution.

It feels more similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6 than the Flip 7 in some ways, but if you want the latest clamshell fold on the market on a budget, this might be your best bet.

Galaxy Watch 8 Series—Putting Health and Fitness First

The Samsung foldables’ July 2025 launch may be the highlight at the event, but the smartwatches are also vying for attention. The new Galaxy Watch 8 series has two options on offer: the base Galaxy Watch 8 and the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. The Galaxy Watch Ultra also received an update, but the Series 8 reveal outshines it to a degree.

All three borrow from the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s design from 2024, building a circular screen on a squircle shape below it, and use the same Exynos W1000 3nm chip to keep a sense of uniformity. Many of their features and capabilities are also evenly matched.

The Galaxy Watch 8 gets the biggest boost in terms of design and functionality, offering up a much sleeker appeal with a better battery capacity at 325mAh and 435mAh for the 40 and 44mm sizes, respectively. With better peak brightness and a more iconic display, there’s a lot to love. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic shows off a rotating bezel that is loved by many, and is larger as well, at 46mm. The battery also keeps up with the boost in size, standing at 445mAh.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) doesn’t do anything dramatically different from its predecessor, but it does get a boost in storage with 64GB of space, and it offers up a new color option for those interested. It’s still the most premium offering from Samsung in terms of features and durability, but it doesn’t give users enough of a reason to upgrade if they already own the previous Ultra model.

That’s All We Have For our Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2025 Recap

Overall, Samsung’s latest foldable releases are decent smartphones with agreeable specs, but they don’t do anything exceptionally different from the older models. The lighter and sleeker build of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the bigger outer screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may make them easier to use, but the difference won’t stand out unless you use them side by side with older models. If you already one a previous iteration of these devices from the last two years, there should be little reason to upgrade, but if you’re coming up from something older, then these handy devices should be a blast to use.

There’s some degree of AI integration in these devices, and they also come with One UI 8 out of the box, so if these factors interest you, it might be time to place your orders for these bendy buddies.
