Taking Stock of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 Rumors Swirling Around in 2025

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors speak of a new wearable with only slightly enhanced specs compared to the Series 10 release last year.

Excited for another round of experiencing Apple’s innovation? Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors are swirling in the wind, stirring conversation about whether the company will be able to do something truly innovative with its smartwatch this time around. The S10 chip or a newer iteration is expected to feature on the Apple Watch Ultra 3, and there is word of a new blood pressure monitor to make the device more useful to the user, although the feature might take a while to arrive.

The Watch Ultra 3 launch window is reportedly set for September, when Apple will bring a slew of new smartphones to the market. There is talk of a few home gadgets also seeing a release, but this may just be wishful thinking. The arrival of the company’s premium smartwatch would be another step forward in the wearable category, which is something Apple hasn’t fully capitalized on in the way some competitors have with smart rings. Despite the excitement, many fans are worried the features of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 might end up being underwhelming.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Rumors: Here’s What the Market Has to Say About the Upcoming Gadget

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 was released on September 22, 2023, and it came with an S9 chip, a 3,000-nit OLED display, and a 36-hour battery life, with all of the features packed in and priced at $799. After taking 2024 off and releasing only a satin black titanium version of the Watch Ultra 2, Apple is reportedly ready to let its beloved smartwatch shine once more this year.

New Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors suggest the new device will feature the same S10 chip seen on the Series 10 watches, but there is some speculation that a new S11 chip could also make an appearance. As a result, most of the features from the Series 10 will also carry over to the new Ultra release. The integration of Apple Intelligence is a given at this point in the game, but its hard to predict if the AI support will greatly add to the user experience.

Rumored Design and Display on the Apple Watch Ultra 3

There is no evidence to suggest that Apple is going to experiment much with the design and aesthetic of the upcoming smartwatch, so Apple will have to rely on internal upgrades and the steady demand for the rugged release in order to sell the watch. The ceramic and sapphire crystal backing from the Series 10 release will likely carry over to the Apple Watch Ultra 3. This should bring the fast-charging capabilities from the series as well.

The rumors also suggest that it will feature a wide-angle OLED display for easier viewing with a brighter output when viewed from an angle. This feature was also seen on the Series 10’s LTPO3 OLED always-on Retina display and improved refresh rate, so Apple won’t be skipping it in the new Apple Watch Ultra coming in 2025.

Satellite Connectivity to Feature on the Apple Watch Ultra 3

The satellite connectivity currently available on the iPhone is expected to extend to the smartwatch as well, expanding how connected users are in the outside world. This will allow users to send texts even without Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity, allowing those who enjoy exploring the limits of civilization to get some good use out of the watch.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman also indicated that Apple will switch over from the Qualcomm modem to a MediaTek alternative for 5G connectivity. The MediaTek modem supports 5G RedCap services, which should help boost the 5G performance as well. These features combined could be the selling point of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to get users to buy it.

Blood Pressure Monitoring Is Another Key Feature

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors are near certain that the upcoming device will come with a blood pressure monitoring system that could help with hypertension detection. This should help track extreme changes in the user’s blood pressure, sending them an alert to get it tested more professionally.

Apple’s health monitoring capabilities have already been known to catch early signs of serious conditions, and the fall detection system is unparalleled. Some leaks suggest that the feature may not be readily available right on its release. Apple has been testing the feature for a while now, with initial plans prepping it for a 2024 release that failed to materialize.

When Is Apple Watch Ultra 3 Coming?

Apple has not set a fixed launch window for the Watch Ultra 3’s release, but the rumor mill believes it will be released in September alongside the iPhone 17 lineup. Some say it will be announced in the second week of the month, possibly on Monday, September 8, but we’ll wait for Apple to formally announce the date.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Expectations Set the Bar High

With Apple skipping a release in 2024, the expectations are high for what the Cupertino company will have to offer this year. The current Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors don’t paint a picture of an industry-leading release, however, for outdoorsy Apple fans, the smartwatch could certainly be appealing. Apple’s more baseline watches are better suited to the general public, which will make the Series 11 release more appealing for a wider number of fans. The Watch Ultra 3 caters to a more adventurous user base that might be tempted by the ruggedness of Garmin watches, which is precisely the demographic it will market itself to.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) earlier this year, alongside the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic. Both were decent smartwatch alternatives, but both missed out on presenting the world with a “wow” factor. The Google Pixel Watch 4 is expected to debut later this month, but its more demure aesthetics cater to an entirely different user base. The new Apple Watch Ultra 3, coming in 2025, has a clear path for a successful launch, but its internal specs will have to be worth the wait.
